Prices are before tax. HST is 13% and the second figure in the table has it in, so you can compare it with what anybody else charges you.

Not sure which one? Answer two questions

We will point you at the cheapest plan that covers what you actually do, and show you how we got there.

Question 1 How many people use it at the same time?
Question 2 What is the heaviest thing you do on it?
Home
100 Mbps
$65per month

Enough for two people watching 4K video at the same time — and it is the cheapest plan that is.

How did we work that out?

2 × 20 Mbps + 5 Mbps background = 45 Mbps at once, plus half again for headroom = 68 Mbps. We add half again on top so it still works on a busy evening.

Gaming is not on the list because it hardly uses any speed — about 4 Mbps. What games need is a connection that responds quickly, and that is not something you fix by buying a bigger plan.

Want room to spare? Home Plus gives you 150 Mbps for $85.

Every plan. Monthly, no contract, no cancellation fee.

The $29 plan has no minimum speed and never goes above 25 Mbps. Prices are before tax. A speed test in a far room is testing your Wi-Fi, not your connection.

What speed you actually need

What you are doingNeedsNotes
Email, banking, browsing 1 Mbps Per person
Video call — Zoom or Teams 4 Mbps Per call, 1080p
Netflix or YouTube — HD 5 Mbps Per stream, 1080p
Online gaming 4 Mbps Latency matters, speed does not
Netflix or YouTube — 4K 20 Mbps Per stream
Game or console download 50 Mbps Faster is faster. Nothing breaks if it is slower.

Figures are for one stream or session at a time. Where the company behind the service publishes a figure, the table carries theirs rather than ours.

  • Video call — Zoom or Teams: Microsoft recommends 4 Mbps down for a Teams meeting. Zoom publishes 3 Mbps down at 1080p. This is the higher of the two.
  • Netflix or YouTube — HD: Netflix publishes 5 Mbps for full HD 1080p, and YouTube publishes 5 Mbps for 1080p.
  • Online gaming: a game sends very little data. What matters is latency, and a bigger plan does not buy it.
  • Netflix or YouTube — 4K: YouTube publishes 20 Mbps for 4K and Netflix publishes 15 Mbps. This is the higher of the two.
  • Game or console download: a download takes whatever is spare. Faster is faster; nothing breaks if it is slower.
Working it out

Add up what runs at the same time on a bad evening. Two 4K streams and a video call is 44 Mbps. That is the entire calculation.

A faster plan does not make a slow website faster, and it does not lower your ping in a game. It only lets more things run at once.

If you tell us what is in your house, we will tell you which tier fits. If that is a cheaper one than you asked about, that is what we will say.

Included at every tier

  • No contract. Leave any month, nothing to pay to get out.
  • Unlimited use. No data cap and no extra charges for using it.
  • Installation is free.
  • We supply the antenna for outside and the router for inside.
  • When you call, someone in Wawa answers.

Equipment

A small antenna is mounted outside, usually on the roof or a wall facing the tower. One cable runs from it into the house to a router we supply.

The equipment stays ours. There is no charge for it while you are a customer and nothing to buy up front. If you leave, we collect it.

Getting connected

  1. We check line of sight

We run a line of sight from your building to our tower, so the path between the two has to be clear. We check that from the road, and sometimes with a short visit. No charge either way, and if it will not work we tell you.

  2. We install

We mount the antenna, run one cable inside, set up the router and test the connection before we leave. A standard install has no charge.

  3. You are connected

Your devices join the Wi-Fi like they would on any other service. Keep your old provider running alongside for a while if you want to compare — plenty of people do, and there is no contract stopping you.

Questions

How does the connection reach my house?

A small antenna on your building connects by radio to one of our towers. One cable runs from that antenna inside to a router. The antenna has to be able to see the tower, which is what we check before we install anything. From there it behaves like any other internet connection. There is no phone line and no cable to your property.

Does weather affect it?

Heavy snow or ice can cause a temporary slowdown. That means severe weather, not a normal Wawa winter.

Is there an installation or setup fee?

No. Standard installs have no charge. We supply the outdoor antenna and the indoor router as part of the service.

Will I actually get the speed I pay for?

Your plan runs at the speed listed. The $29 plan is the exception — it has no minimum, which is why it is cheaper.

One thing worth knowing on any plan: if you run a speed test at the far end of the house you are testing your Wi-Fi, not your internet. Test next to the router.

What is the $29 plan?

Unlimited data, no contract and a free install, for $29 a month. The catch is that it has no minimum speed and never goes above 25 Mbps — some evenings it will be slower. It suits email, browsing and one video stream. Move up to Starter or higher if you want the speed you pay for.

Can I keep my current provider?

Yes. Some people run both for a while to compare before cancelling. You handle the cancellation with your old provider when you are ready.

Is there a data limit?

No. Use as much as you like. We do not charge extra for going over and we do not slow you down after an amount — on any plan.

What happens if I want to leave?

Tell us and we stop billing. There is no contract and no cancellation fee. We arrange a time to collect the equipment.
